Report: McCarthy Will Oust Omar, Schiff, And Swalwell From Committee Assignments If GOP Wins The House

on

Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says he plans to remove Democrat Representatives Adam Schiff, Ilhan Omar, and Eric Swalwell from their committee assignments should the GOP win back the House in 2022.

He issued the warning to his colleagues in an interview with Breitbart News.

McCarthy points to the aggressive actions taken by Democrats in policing Republican House members Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to seat two pro-Trump congressmen on the select committee investigating the Capitol riot as reasons for him to take action.

“The Democrats have created a new thing where they’re picking and choosing who can be on committees,” McCarthy said. “Never in the history [of Congress] have you had the majority tell the minority who can be on committee.”

“But this new standard which these Democrats have voted for—if Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the private sector, there is no reason why he should be given one to be on Intel or Homeland Security,” he continued. “He will not be serving there.”

McCarthy Says He Will Strip Democrats Of Committee Assignments

Kevin McCarthy’s assessment of Eric Swalwell echoes previous sentiments in which he’s said the California Democrat would be unable to get a security clearance in the private sector due to an alleged relationship with a Chinese spy.

A bombshell Axios report last December indicated that a woman by the name of Christine Fang “took part in fundraising activity for Swalwell’s 2014 re-election campaign” and that she interacted with the Congressman “at multiple events over the course of several years.”

Fang had served as a Chinese Intelligence operative with China’s Ministry of State Security.

Swalwell laughably suggested the only reason McCarthy is targeting him is because he’s such an effective member of Congress.

“McCarthy is targeting me for 1 reason,” tweeted Swalwell. “I’m effective.”

Swalwell added, “If he thinks he’s silencing me, he’s not.”

Yes, the guy best known for his relationship with a Chinese spy, going shirtless on a camel in Qatar, and passing gas on live television is certainly a threat.

You have to go pretty far down the list of most effective lawmakers compiled by the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking before you run into Swalwell’s name.

Schiff And Omar Too

McCarthy also vowed to remove Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from their respective committee assignments should Republicans emerge victorious after the midterms.

“Ilhan Omar should not be serving on Foreign Affairs,” McCarthy told Breitbart. “This is a new level of what the Democrats have done.”

He tossed Schiff into the mix as well.

“You look at Adam Schiff — he should not be serving on Intel when he has openly, knowingly now used a fake dossier, lied to the American public in the process and doesn’t have any ill will [and] says he wants to continue to do it,” he said.

Schiff’s office responded by saying McCarthy’s actions would be “catastrophic” and added the required link to overturning election results as fear-mongering for their base.

“Allowing McCarthy to get anywhere near the Speaker’s gavel would be catastrophic — not just because of his propensity for falsehoods and smears, but because he will exist solely to do Donald Trump’s bidding — even potentially overturning the 2024 results,” a Schiff spokesperson said.

That’s right, the words “propensity for falsehoods” came from the office of the man who sold the media on Russia collusion for four straight years.

The House Minority leader has been threatening to remove Democrats from committee assignments for some time now.

Democrats voted to censure Rep. Paul Gosar and remove him from committee assignments over a parody cartoon video in November.

A parody cartoon.

Gosar (R-AZ) was removed from the Committee on Oversight and Reform and the Natural Resources Committee.

The House stripped Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in February from the Education and Labor Committee as well as the Budget Committee over ill-advised social media posts made prior to her election to office.

McCarthy viewed both circumstances as overreach and vowed to give both individuals their committee assignments back if Republicans win in 2022.

“They’ll have committees,” McCarthy vowed of Greene and Gosar. “They may have other committee assignments.”

In fact, he added, “They may have better committee assignments.”

Democrats will have truly reaped what they sow if Schiff, Omar, and Swalwell have to watch Greene and Gosar serve on better committees while they have to sit around twiddling their thumbs.
